Spreading Hope

newssyliva.jpgSilvia N. Perez is a highly educated and successful woman. At the age of fourteen, she came to America from a little town in Mexico with no running water, or electricity. She was on a mission, seeking education, including learning the English language. Silvia is a compassionate woman with a heart filled with the belief of spreading hope.

Over the past thirteen years, she resided in Milwaukee, establishing excellent friendships and a tremendous local and national network. Silvia achieved her Masters of Science in Management from Cardinal Stritch University in 2005. She has 11 years of Marketing, Public Relations Development and Sales experience and an active role in the Latino community. For her role as the On Site Coordinator for the National Convention League of United Latin American Citizens, she secured national sponsorships and worked with Miller Park, the Mitchell Park Domes and the Milwaukee Art Museum in holding social events for the youth. .

Behind all the accomplishments, she stands apart with her genuine love for the human race. “I think people have so much potential. I came from Mexico and didn’t even speak English. When I came, I saw the opportunities,” said Silvia.

When it comes to helping others better their lives and getting out of the rut that keeps them hopeless and into trouble, Silvia feels it’s her obligation to help uplift those in need. “I always have people tell me that I’m always smiling; I have a lot of things to be smiling for, so why not smile,” said Silvia. “I like to help others who need that little bit of kindness in their life.”

She participates actively within her church and teamed up with other members to plant a community garden on the corner of 1st and Center Street. “The neighbor is pretty low income. I think it will help give them another outlet to feed their families healthy food that they grow themselves,” said Silvia.

On the block of the garden there are homes owned by the church called, “Gingerbread Land”. The homes are used for families, single mothers, homeless, or those just getting out of prison. They come and live rent-free and are asked to be active in the church. “Through the church and my community involvement, I try to open up as many doors as I can for people. I have been blessed.”

Silvia is currently working with the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C. “I am especially interested in this new great opportunity, to be in the heart of America, where many great innovative ideas come out of.”
